Grace O'Malley Stand Up Review
wanted to see if the stand up was worth the hype after all the hoopla
Misandrists will say my opinion on this matter is irrelevant, fans of stand up might read this because they want to know just like I did if Grace was funny or the internet just blew her up. Take an adderall or whatever so you can focus & find out my opinion.
After monitoring the ticket prices when it sold out I waited until it dropped to a point I felt comfortable & said “fuck it you’re going” while in an uber last night. I went by myself. When I got there I came in like 1 minute late and the Laugh Boston was packed. Took a seat in the back and just minded my own business as the opener and host were doing their thing.
The opener was great and I probably should have written his name down somewhere because at this moment while writing this it has escaped me. As Grace came on something semi-weird happened to me. One of the servers came up to me and said I needed to move and basically placed me pretty close to the stage which like very nice but also weird. I felt bad as I am a little bit on the taller side and felt like I could be blocking some people’s view.
Back to the comedy, Grace was pretty fucking funny. Maybe it’s because she’s also a masshole like me and we’re the same age but her jokes were good. She had told the crowd how she had opened for Whitney Cummings and iron sharpens iron so I imagine she got some tricks of the trade and learned a lot on that tour.
Now, I am not going to sit here and glaze Grace, it was a fun set. She definitely is good for comedy and someone you hope to see more of as time goes on. She complimented her former employer and did not bash her ex-podcast host which I respected because she could probably dog anyone anytime she wants.
She is definitely someone to be on the look out for and on the rise. To give a blended comparison of how viewed her comedy it would be in the middle of a Venn diagram of Whitney, Chelsea, and maybe Melissa McCarthy or Schumer. She’s not at their level yet but you can see the promise. Overall I’d give the show a 7.1/10.
